CAREER: Job Interview checklist
This checklist concerns the practical preparatory steps for a job interview. They should be easy to remember and be very basic, and exactly for this reason it is important to remember them all:
- Collect your papers: a) Your application, b) CV, c) Job description.
- Consider how you're going to be dressed, and prepare it (could be a) tie, b) suit, c) special T-shirt, is it clean etc (should it be)....
- Research the company
- Research the industry
- Research the job
- Prepare questions TO the company (a) the job (referring to?, a usual day?, how can you excel, what character is your boss, your colleagues? etc.
- Prepare answers FROM the company/recruiter (strong/weak points, results in your career, and how you achieved them, where are you in 1/5/10 years etc. etc.). Think of and prepare relevant questions to you that start with "How do you feel about ....", "Give an example of when you did ...."
- Prepare your 5 strongest points that you want to convey and concentrate on repeating them during the interview whenever it seems natural.
- Remember to be enthusiastic, but don't overdo it. Smile. Be on the ball.
- You are probably being assessed on your intelligence, your practical experience (the circumstances, your approach and the results) and expertise and your social/emotional abilities. Find a way to prepare for this.
- You may also get a case to solve. Prepare yourself for this - ask beforehand how the interview is going to be conducted.
- Send the employer or the recruiter a follow-up e-mail when you get home and explain briefly why you liked the job and how much you'd like to get it.
