INVESTING: Investing in Bonds checklist
Investing in bonds is a lesser known investment vehicle people can use. Bonds operate much different than investing in stocks.
* Bonds typically have a face value, which they will be worth at maturity
* The purchase price of a bond is a discount from the maturity value
* Bonds can come with coupons, with are recurring payments
* The difference between the purchase price and maturity value is the bond premium
* Companies, governments and individuals all issue bonds
* Bonds do not represent ownership of a company
* Bonds are like a loan to the company
* Bonds can traded the same as stock
* There are bond brokers
* Bonds are considered a more secure investment with a known payoff and date
