MANAGEMENT: Great Plains checklist (printable)
Great Plains, also referred to as Microsoft Dynamics, is an accounting system used by several companies.
* Great Plains was bought by Microsoft and now goes by the name Dynamics, but often is still called GP
* GP is an ERP system, which stands for Enterprise Resource Planning
* GP is considered a mid tier system
* GP can handle all normal accounting as well as payroll, inventory tracking, human resources, time management
* The reporting features of GP are marginal, often companies will use a 3rd party software for financial reports
* The cost to buy a system like Great Plains is often $30,000-$60,000 including the implementation and customization
* Very few companies use the "out of the box" version of Great Plains and need some customization
* GP is purchased through resellers who Microsoft has contracted with to sell and implement the system
* There are large national resellers as well as smaller local resellers of GP
* Often times resellers will offer several ERP system options and help you decide which is best for you
