MANAGEMENT: Motivating People checklist

Motivating people to do things can be challenging, especially if they don't want to. Use some common tips on how to motivate people even if they don't really want to do something.


* Set realistic expectations of the person
* Find some motivators for the person
* Don't only use monetary rewards as a motivator
* Praise the employee on their ability to do a task well
* Explain the big picture of what they are being asked to do
* Give lots of encouragement along the way
* Give employees freedom to solve problems in their own way
* Realize that people want to use their brains and allow them to
* Explain potential rewards that may ensue later on such as promotions
