MISC: Security Operations checklist (printable)

Information technology (IT) security has become an important topic this last decade. As ways to secure data improve, so do hackers abilities in getting around security. Below is a list of bare minimum security any person or company should have in place to secure their data.


* Use passwords that are longer than shorter
* Use passwords that combine lower case, upper case, numbers, and special characters
* Change passwords often and require all employees to do so
* Use virus protection software, spyware scanners, adware scanners to keep PC's clean
* Monitor employee downloads or prevent access to sites that may have malware
* Have all employees sign a computer use policy which is enforced
* Continually back up data, if not a live backup then at least daily
* Use off-site backup locations in case of natural disaster at the primary location
* Use cryptography for very sensitive data when transmitting
* Document all process flows and responsibility centers
