THE NEW BUSINESS: Start a Business checklist (printable)
1. There are two kinds of people who want to start up businesses: The ones who have an idea and the ones who are searching for the "right" idea. This list is about execution, i.e. not about generating the right ideas (but that could be a good list as well)
2. Write a business plan - even if it is only for yourself - and follow it as long as it makes sense to you. (see the list)
3. Remember that CASH IS KING. This is NOT only a cliche, most start-ups die because cash runs out, even if it is evident that the business would prosper "if only it had cash for 3 months more..."
3. Find one or more mentors, from the industry and/or with start-up experience.
4. Realise how much time you will have to spend, and much money you will have to spend. Is your family up to it. Do they suffer if you don't do it?
5. Use good advisors. They can be hard to find, and they can be expensive. Many will provide free introductory sessions. Just ask.
6. Network. Visit fairs to get inspiration etc.
