TRAVEL: Car-travel & Children checklist
TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN - BY CAR
Children are great to travel with, but it can involve a few challenges some times. Here is a checklist designed to get you all well under way:
1. Clean & check your car
A nice way of starting your trip.
2. Ensure you have safe car seats suitable for the childrens age.
3. Have the following items easily accessible in the car:
a. wet wipes
b. nappies & changing mat for small children
c. plastic bags to put dirty nappies and/or clothes in
d. 1 set of extra clothes
e. potty - then you can stop wherever whenever and do not have to visit dirty toilets
4. Food
Even if you intend to eat out during your trip, my experience is that the children end up eating junk all day and payback time comes in the shape of grumpy and unhappy terrorists on the backseat. So, now I always bring my own food, for example:
a. chicken legs
b. boiled eggs
c. sandwich
d. drinks in spill proof bottles
e. fruit, fresh & dried
c. carrot sticks
5. Entertainment
A must for a long trip. The following works for my children (now 3 years old)
a. books
b. dolls & cars
c. film on dvd - this is the unbeatable winner for us
d. music & stories on cd
e. buy new small toys, wrap them up as presents and give during the trip
6. Stops
Make frequent stops. It will make your trip a bit slower, but will help you keep the children happy
