TRAVEL: Where To Go And,.. checklist

... How To Get There

You're thinking: Where should we go for our next holiday? You start to surf the internet, but it is so crowded with offers that you don't know what to do. You don't feel secure, it somehow get's complicated and you don't really trust the companies/machines out there. It's amazing that this still is a junlge, and sorry to say this list does not solve the problem. It does contain some hints to get you started?

FINDING THE RIGHT DESTINATION

  1. First you need to answer a few basic questions: your budget, how many are you, are you looking for adventure, sun, skiing/sports, relaxation, culture, entertainment, kids/no kids etc., basic/middle-of-the-road/luxury, how long are you going for, how do you want to travel (plane, car, train), when do you want to go (what time of year) etc. These questions no portal can answer for you. Consider giving each area som points on a scale from 1-10 and later compare with the destinations you decide to choose between.
  2. OK, you've been through all that, and already you have filtered away a lot of options. Now you need to know how to find the specific place and how to get there and back.

HOW TO SPECIFIC AND TO GET THERE

  1. You have to decide, at some point, whether you want to book everything yourself or let an agency do it for you.
  2. You can try the biggest portals on the net (if you have tried some good ones, please let us know and we will list them, but I'm thinking of hotels.com, travelocity.com, expedia.com, traveljungle.com, opodo.com and similar ones in your country (none of these are sponsors)
  3. You can also do it the old fashioned way, which is to CALL a travel agent. It may cost you a little more, but you get the human touch and the possibility to assess whether you actually believe the person you are talking to. They will also be able to ask the right questions (the ones you did not think of and which are not - YET - on checklist 4u.com). This way it may save you a lot of time and misunderstandings. You will also be able to state YOUR requirements (see below) in YOUR language, and follow-up on this when you get back.
  4. Talk to friends and colleagues and get some good tips. Remember people are different, so don't get carried away just because they seem very enthusiastic about something (but be open).

THINGS TO REMEMBER AND WATCH OUR FOR

  1. Check the other travel lists on this site.
  2. Be specific in your requirements and write them down and send them in a mail afterwards. This could include: Oceanview (without breaking your back), non-smoking, tranquility, proximity to the city center, tourist traps, ocean, pool, restaurants, venues, kid clubs, guides etc.
  3. Make sure you're insured.
  4. Bring passport/id, creditcards, mobile and cash in local currency
